Disco 1 & 2 auto box

Just wondered if the auto box on a disco 1 300tdi is the same as a disco 2 v8? Reason i ask is i'm looking at buying a disco 2 for caravanning but from past experiences i don't want the same auto box as the 300tdi because i fried both, We take the caravan to the peak district so lots of hills. I would prefer a manual box but can't find a half decent v8 with manual anywhere.

same box basically one is ecu controlled the other mechanically ,generally a very good box, i towed for years with a v8 auto d1 and still do with a td5 d2 auto,oil changes is important

Thanks, out of curiosity which do you prefer for towing? the v8 or the TD5?

v8 was better as its smoother and power from the start ie no waiting for turbo but fuel costs meant going to diesel;

Thanks, i'm thinking of going for a v8 with lpg, we don't tow long distances so i'm not too concerned about fuel costs.

change oil and filter in the box plus t/box and axle oils when you het one ,most arent changed anywhere near enough, my latest took 3 changes to get in any where near clean, bearing in mind you can only change half ie 4.5 litres at a time
