Hi all I will post again.

My discovery 1 auto wont go into diff lock as its seized at the top. Rather than take the console out and get access from the top. Could I fill the cast box at the top with lube and wait or would it all run out. I can get down the side of the lever but am also unsure if there are seals at the top.
I dont need the landy so it can sit there all week with some oil in it.

Thanks

the problem in with the linkage on the outside of the box. dirt and other ****e stopping it from moveing , nothing a good cleaning and lube would not fit.

Half assed attempt give half assed results

its not as if it takes long to undo the centre console either, unplug electric seats if you have them as well as window electrics, pop the diff lock cover and gearstick cover, 4 screws in box, think 4 screws at top next to diff lock lever might be two

pull off, unplug ciggy lighter. done

Its a matter of not having much time over the next few weeks. I have had it in diff lock but its very very stiff. Possibly previously owned by a lady on a housing estate.

I will take it out at sometime and give it a good grease and service. Just wondered if it would work.

I would try oiling it all from underneath first. If you slide under the car with a torch you can easily see the majority of the linkage. Give it a few good soakings with oil and see how that works. It's also possible to use grips to move the linkage from underneath, it's quite fiddly tho but would give you more leverage than using the high low lever.

Good luck.

hi/lo nhousing has a cross shaft through it that works diff linkage its usually were shaft comes through housing on lhs that needs lubricating you might be able to do that from underneath ,but its worth removing consol etc at some time and going over the whole linkage and renewing the plastic bushes

Thanks all I have given it a few soakings from the underside which go it moving quite a bit.
Yep watched the vids as well. I am not taking an angle grinder to the tunnel though lol.

It will need coming out sometime this year maybe when the weather gets warmer.

Will give it a go.

Difflock now works.
Well I took the knob off the top and the outer gator and slid a thick walled pipe over the shaft. I pulled it towards the passenger side whilst smacking it hard with a lump hammer from the drivers side. It moved and went into difflock. Did the reverse then back again and so fourth. I then kept getting underneath and gave it a load of oil. I can now move it and its very free. Now I need the snow. lol

Just need to sort the battery drain now and I have a good trouble (ish) free landy. for a few weeks until something else breaks or falls off.

Thanks everyone for the advice and giving me the understanding how it works so I could thrash the hell out of it with confidence.
