difficult diff!

advice needed,I have a landrover 90 (1984) mostly ok,but me diff dont go into high,low,1 or 2 just goes from left to right.hope its not going to be a major operation.cheers.

Are you saying the difflock works? but you can't engage high & low box? or are you saying none of it works? and when you say 1 or 2 which lever are you referring too? the gearstick or the hi/lo & difflock lever

the transfer box has a H operation

left to right is diff lock
Fully left is engaged right is open for normal driving

Forward and backwards:
Forwards is low box
Center is transfer box neutral
Backwards is high range normal driving

I suspect the linkage is solid its quite common, many many rangie classics have never been put into low box since the factory and because of this the mechanism or linkage usually seizes this may also be your problem

just get some WD40 in under the rubbery cover thing and let it soak in for a while then take it out for a drive to get some heat into the box and try it again
