Hi to all on this great site.
I'm in search for a 2.8:1 Ratio differential from an early Range Rover. Apparently they were made by a company Kam Diffs to reduce engine RPM where larger engines have been fitted
Kam Diffs no longer manufacture these retro fit units , so if any one has a usable one , please get in touch.
Thanks for looking

3.54 down to 2.80:eek: that's some change! What sort of engine would pull that ratio (locomotive perhaps) & what would it do to the gearbox I wonder? Sorry I can't help with info. not even being aware of such an alterative.

Thanks for the replies.
I need to reduce engine rpm for motorway cruising, engine will be upgraded to 4.0 litre. The standard diff is 3.54 so not to much of a change

KAM 2.83 to 1 crown wheels and pinions are available from Crowndiffs. Do a search.

Like 21 percent:cool: I'm a bit puzzled here & perhaps don't have all the info. but here goes: Given that 3.54 is the ratio used by all first series RR's, my 3.5efi (auto) with the 230T transfer box only pulls around 2850, always assuming that both the speedo & tacho are accurate, at the legal limit. Maybe early models had lower h/transfer gearing but surely it can't be that much different, I stand corrected if I'm barking up the wrong tree. If your's is a manual what about an overdrive?

really bad idea...what if you blow one...cant justy go and get..

much better to change transferbox ratios..if lt95 4 speed box then you are laughing (as the gears are changable with box insitu)early ones are totally interchangable with the later ones and give about 20% rise..also one can just bolt on a overdrive..

if 5 speed box then it has an lt230 transfer box on it and the early 3 speed auto one is 1:1 also a 20% rise over the stanard manual lt230 box..

simples...

Thanks for that but it's for a rover p5b as I beleive they are the same as the early range rovers.
So only one Diff.

had a feeling it might be...

dont they do (did do) an overdrive?

They were never fitted as standard, the car has a tiny trans tunnel, not realy enough space to fit one. The diff change would be the way to go. Thanks

what engine it got??i assume rover v8..cant you fit mgb v8 manual o/d box?they quite petite??

Crowndiffs don't exist , at least there phone doesn't work, can't get a response.
Is there anyone else that can do a similar 2.8:1 ratio diff ???

i made a mistake he is trading. A very helpfull guy. Unfortunatelly he didn't have a 2.8 diff. So if anyone has one, post up here please.

It's not out yet (I've just discovered that I've been running with mismatched diffs for years, - explains a lot.) Once it's out I'll have a count up and confirm the ratio.
