Alright,

May seem like a daft question, but can I put two tyres of one brand on the front of my P38 and then 2 of another make on the rear without any ill effects re: diffs or VCU?

I know they can be finiky if you say run different tyres on the same axle, esp if one is block-type tread, but if I I keep the tyres the same make on the same axle and also all 4 tyres the same style tread, would I be ok?

Reason I ask is I have two duff tyres and two good ones of the same make, but want to pick up two matching part worns to tide me over. Obviously the tyres sizes will be identical all round.

Many thanks in advance,

Diehard

Only issues I could see is if you had different rolling radii front to rear - as this would induce constant differential movement in the VCU and kill it pretty quickly.

My STRs only lasted a couple of days before I took them back. Made it positively dangerous. I'd never touch them again on a P38.

Weird really, when you consider how good the STs were.

I've just had to put GG ATs on the front to replace a buggered AT2. Still got AT2s on the back. No probs so far, but I suppose they are fairly similar...

Same as that, got STR's when I couldn't get ST's thinking they'd be fine, they were terrible on the front.

I'm running Toyo Opencountry AT's all round now, very happy with them, cheaper than GG AT2's.

Also had str fitted and they only lasted 15000 mile before wearing out and 1 also blistered on the side wall so i think michelins all round for my next set
Have Hankook ice bear on front no complaints with them but as I am doing an overland trip to China and Tibet and Nepal in august I will be changing all four tyres before I go

In a P38? Wow. Hope you'll be doing a write up!

That I cannot wait to see :bounce:

Thanks everyone by he way, also why we're on, anyone had any expirience with Accelera 4X4 Extra Load tyres? These are what i have on at mo in 255/55/18 and not sure if it's my poorly front diff or tyres causing excessive noise... I know they are 'budget' so got me thinking.
