Hi Everyone

I'm a newbie so please forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I am considering buying an early disco (after missing my Series 3 which I sold 3 years ago) and I can't seem to find out if they all have a centre diff lock. I understand that it is an option on some models, but is there a way I can tell from the model whether is has a diff lock or not? I'm guessing it's not as simple as it sounds, but if anyone knows of a webiste that'll tell me I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks

Hi there.. All 200 and 300 series have a central diff lock. cross axle diffs are not standard bit central diffs are. There was a change with the launch of the disco 2 with the td5 engine from around 1999 (not sure of exact date without searching). Hope that helps you a bit.

Thanks Accywingy

I think that helps because I'm assuming the 1989 Disco I'm looking at is prior to the 200 range. What where they called prior to this? Was the centre diff lock an option on these earlier models?

There must be a potted history of the model line up somewhere on line! Any ideas?

Thanks again

The origional Disco was what is known as the 200 series which, that changed in 1994 with a facelift and the change of the diesel engine and i think the V8 changing to 3.9. the TD5 was the 99 launch again with a facelift. I can assure you that the 1989 would be fitted with central diff. Not just sure about the whereabouts of detailed history though sorry.

an 89 disco is a 200tdi. these were the first discos produced with many parts coming from other bl marques, ie, sherpa van headlights, maestro van tail lights. these vehicles have a central diflock on the high low range selecter stick. if you are going to buy one take a test drive and make sure the high low range works and also test the diflockj, hope this helps:)
