Diff lock question

Right here goes i got a 2.5td defender 90 1986 model sometimes when i use my diff lock low 1st gear for decent or 2nd for climbing it just jumps out of gear or diff lock how can i fix this as you can imagine its no fun dencnding a hill at a nice pace then it pops out an you gotta find the brakes quick advice appreciated cheers tubbiescooter

i cant help but im all ears for a solution cos i suffer a similar problem.

If it isn't happening because the bits are worn to Hell (unlikely) then the most probable cause if that the diff-lock is not fully engaging due to filth and grot gunging up the various linkages.

If your engine and gearbox mountings are floppy the whole engine gearbox assembly can move about a bit and that can occasionally knock them out of LO and or DiffLock.

Go for the linkages first.

the rubber gater is my problem it does the same for me but if i lift the gator offthe no probs works fine for me. try it

It could be all of them an also it could be ****e cacked up round the selector gubbins, the lever wrongly adjusted or the detent spring an ball bearing not holding it in gear.
