My 1999 TD5 Disco doesn't have (the optional) Diff Lock, I read on another post that that some parts of the difflock mechanism are in all Transfer boxes (with and without difflock). The manual suggests that no parts are already in the transfer box for the lock unless it's fitted.

Does anyone know which bits are and which bits aren't standard and also cost / effort to add a Diff Lock.

Read about this somewhere many moons ago. Vague recollection that it's possible to retrofit a manual diff lock - don't know any of the detail.....

Try talking to Ashcroft transmissions I'd guess that they do this and probably have a kit if you want to DIY.

Spent an hour or so again last night trawling old posts and found the one i'd seen - probably the same one you saw squiggle, from kzycnn, and he's msg'd me with ashcroft transmissions too.

Time to call Ashcroft I think :/

Ashcroft do a kit - basically all the genuine land rover items sold together - for £195.00 + VAT and delivery, all external to transfer box! result. Wonder how much the option was with land rover when new?

Your soul.

Plus interest.

I thought I had seen a drawing of a very cheap way of enabling the diff lock. In the manual it says that 'a land rover tech might engage the diff lock while servicing the car. So that must mean the mech is there just no lever or switch. Then I found the drawings for a home made lever and an electronic switch. have a look at the tech pages for cdl lever on this.

lol, mmm very series III (if my memory serves well) maybe it should be yellow and the range lever red (or is it the other way round)

The Solenoid solution is excellent tho

why not try fitting independant air lockers, they work better than o/e anyway and probably cost the same ammount

Air locker for centre diff as opposed to diff air lockers? not seen them.

Bloke1968 - the solenoid version looks neat - I will look into that - cheers.
