defender panel alignment

From the pictures the passenger door looks 'liveable' if a little close at the back of the door.
The drivers however looks terrible.
The gap between the door and bulkhead looks to get bigger as it goes down, I.E to make the gap at the top left as good as possible. Which is still very close.
The bottom of the door also looks close to the sill at the back, I.E running down as it comes back.
I think the bulkhead needs tilting forwards and/or starting from scratch. Which is probably the best way to get it right.

what condition are the hinges in ?

sloppy as **** id guess?

that would play a big factor in this ? I used to have to lift my door to shut it - combination of **** hinges (of which replacement ****parts were not much better - sp do some with nice tight inserts) and my bulkhead starting to collapse due to rot and weight of doors ! !

Hinges was one of my thoughts too. And looking at the usual rusty marks I'd say they're on their way.
But I'd think the doors should line up somewhere near regardless as the striker will hold it to a certain extent. As you say just have to lift the door to close.
But his look miles out, and doesn't look like theirs enough adjustment to sort in the door alone.
P.s, my britpart hinges seem ok so far :behindsofa:

Hi yes the hinges are knackered on both sides and it does make a difference but the gap is still out especially divers side

At this point I'd usually say, buy some hinges and try again, but I just can't see it working enough.
Although you'll still want some regardless as it'll make life easier.

Yes. If you click on the photo in photobucket it will display in a larger view. To the right it will put some links. Click on the Driect link and it will copy it. Then post it on ere between this at the start at the end with no spaces.

Trying to show how the sides arent lined up and look like they need a pull outwards.

I can see what you mean on the pics.
The washers are elongated and allow a little bit of movement at the back.
Weather it's enough is another mater, although I'd be focusing on sorting the door gaps more than anything.
Sides aren't that bad and aren't going to gain you in the form of door alignment.
One of my sides is like yours, but I think that's because it's had a new tub skin before. Or at least that's the only thing I can think.
But I'll live with that.

If i lift the door on drivers side and close it and hold it in possition it looks like the passenger side one, so its fair to say that new hinges will lift them a bit but not enough to sort that gapping out.

Then buy a set of hinges and try again. They're not silly money anyway.
I bought a britpart kit, they seem pretty good actually.
Part number - DA1070. Cost was about £36.
You're just ****ing in the wind if not as it sounds like theirs a lot of play.

Yeah am guna do that next mate and take it from there, are the britpart hinges you got the squarer edged ones or do they look like proper landrover hinges? Where did you buy them please?

The square edged ones are what was fitted to earlier vehicle. Round edge ones are what you want on your td5.
The ones I bought are the rounder type, and are fitted to a td5 that's currently having a rebuild.
I bought mine from lr direct, but google DA1070 and choose a supplier.

This is the kit I bought, get everything you need, nuts, bolts, spacers, g nuts and most importantly... Hinges.
I would offer you some assistance if you where closer.

Ordered same hinges as you and from same spot too, whats easiest way to fit em pal?

Seen as doors are already fitted, I'd just unbolt and replace one at a time.
Never changed a set as in your scenario. Always been completely in bits.
