Defender is home! woo hoo

Hey guys! after a real struggle to find a 90 one turned up on my doorstep! A guy wanted to buy my Fiat 500 so he turned up to see it in a 1998 300tdi. He ended up not buying my car so i bought his! Its in very good condition and a 2 owner car (a farmer and a post man) its done 89000 miles and is in just fantastic untouch ed condition, i cant beleive it! Only problem is it stinks of wet dog! and i mean stinks so fist up will be new carpets and seats also i little sound proofing; i also will do all the head lining and sides. oh and get the rear wheel off as its warping the door!
Down the line it could prob do with rebushing and a new windscreen rubber.

A few questions when i indicate it buzzes is that normal?

when you turn the ignition what lights should come on? (first turn) battery, oil and heater coil, turn engine over i have battery on untill i rev it a bit and park light and ! light which both go off with hand brake? is that right, what is ! light?

Cant work out heater but its f8cking hot.

Charge light should go out as soon as running, but might be as simple as loose fan belt.....?

Handbrake light should go out when you let it off - dunno what the ! is..... A

straight and unmolested, shame about the dog smell but I am sure you will sort that quickly.

The ! is brake fluid level level warning, should come on / go off with hand brake as a lamp check. if it comes on by itself when driving check the level.

I would love one like that in really original condition. It looks fantastic: enjoy!

get some good security on it first if you want to keep it. Then get rid of the dog smell

! gear change is great no noises at all as for the steering ive never driven one before and enormous steering wheel prob doesnt help. What should it feel like its quite bouncy and wollows about! great!

Charge light stays on untill i press accelorator!
park light and ! light go out when hard brake is released.

Oh a quick question? is that the normal height for a 90 or is just those massive wheels, if i put some normal defender alloys on will it look daft or will they fit the wheel arch?

UK is a island also, that doesn't stop them from nicking them

Ok! just had kids out for a run and noticed 2 things!

1) pulling away it seems to lurch a little at the front right side ( dips on acceleration)

2) also at slow speed when you put your foot down or pulling away seems to be a knock at the rear somewhere? like being hit from behind cant explain it really! like a delay really, feels like front end goes then rear end follows a mili second after!


any ideas?

the heater is hot?? ! you should put it in a museum as a one of a kind defender !

If someone wants it no amount of security will stop them! nice bunch us over here no car theft at all! only way off is a ferry! and i work on the docks so wouldnt get far!

Steam cleaner is good for wet dog and cleaning he'd liners

so i knocked it out of gear and looked for play rear prop (normal i think) so put handbrake on slid under rear of landy and rocked it back and forth about an inch and every time i rocked the landy there was clunk coming from around the rear diff i think?

Sounds like a frame ball joint or bushes.

Lie underneath and get someone to rock it, you should see the play.

Battery light will stay on until you give it a little rev, quite normal.
Get security fitted if you haven't already, looks very nice
