Hi Guys,

Currently I have a Disco 1 (98) and I am quite happy with it but I have always wanted a defender 110.
I tried one at the recent Aldershot Army show and was impressed but I can;t afford a new one.
Sooo here are the questions:
1) My mechanical recommends the 300tdi as the best engine, is this the general consensus?
2) I love the 2.4 and onwards 7 forward facing seat design, is it relatively simple to fit this to an older fender?
3) I found the drivers seat in the defender quite cramped and I'm only 6'1" so is there a fix to get the seat a wee bit further back?
4) My use is about 70% Road (with 50% of that being longer journeys on mixed roads) and 20% light field work and 10% very mucky, is there an after market cruise control available and is the Disco transfer box the best option to make motorways tolerable?

All help gratefully received

Thanks in advance

Chris

1: that was the consensus when I was looking,

2: Yes, exmoor do the seats, they aint that cheap though.

3: Yes, you can get extended rails that give more adjustment, and can add a bit to the height of the seat too, I'm 6ft, dont find it too bad, but am looking at the extra rails though, more for the extra bit of height, dont want to loose too much rear leg room, its not over generous as it is.

4: not 100%, but theres an aftermarket cruise for just about anything, the disco transfer box is supposed to make it a bit quieter at motorway speeds, the up gearing does have an effect on round town as well IIRC>

Excellent, thanks for that timtheenchanteruk, that helps a lot. I'll check out the price of the exmoor seasts, I don;t think anything is cheap from them :)
IN my humble experience of landrover owner ship, the cost of teh vehicle is usually them as the cost of the bits you want to add/remove/replace/repair/improve
All part of the fun I guess.

To the best of my knowledge all the wires and gummins are already in place for cruise control on a td5 all you have to do is get hold of the dash switch (take blank out and you will find the conection behind) and the paddle that goes on the steering wheel.

Td5 is easy to install cruise control in did mine for under £20 only problem is I have the 1:22 ( disco ) ratio high range box do it only works in 4th till I get the ecu flashed , as for the seats if one defenders got it yours can have it , eBay will help lol :)

200 or 300 engines are less electrical but if ur not wading up to the roof the td5 is highly tunable and ya can have gadgets :)
