Hi all

I'm not too comfortable with my kids travelling in the back of the Defender without seat belts so I'm looking at getting some front facing rear seats...but, one of the main duties of the 90 (when I'm not mucking about in it) is for the missus to transport the kids and the dogs...but I'm concerned that there isn't going to be enough room for the two kids and a Lab in the back with front facing seats...can anyone prove or disprove this?

Also, I have read a post on here about fitting 3rd row Disco seats in the back of the 90 which looked great and the chap managed to get them for £80 brand new off Exmoor Trim. Anyone else looked into this or have any good ideas where I might be able to get some at a good price.

Finally, does anyone know if there is a significant difference between the cheaper older style front facing seats from Exmoor Trim and the expensive new style?

Cheers

Can't prove or disprove im afraid. Although i would bet youll struggle for room. The pics I've seen of having two forward facing seats in the back looks crammed. Leg room might be an issue, and there is no space between the seats at all.

The difference between the new and old forward facing seats from exmoor, is that the old ones are not suitable for baby seats and small children. I spoke to a guy at exmoor when i considered them (at the time, only the old ones were available). He said that the seats relied on the weight of the passenger to be safe. He certainly ruled out baby seats, they simply weren't up to the testing required. I believe the new seats are ok for baby seats though. They are much more substantial. Also they are much more expensive.

Use the search. Theres a pretty good thread about rear seats. I have two fold away seats. Not landrover. Out of a disabled minibus. Pretty good and more fixings. Not sure you would get a dog in too though.

I have an old county with the sideways seats that came with lapbelts. The kids use these (10, 8 and 4) but we dont use any booster or car seats for them to sit on. With three kids our brown lab just has enough space with the fourth seat folded up. If we have four in the back then the lab has to stand up between knees which he doesnt like much.

We live in a rural spot and as a result are not on any fast roads or going any great distances (normally less than 30 mins max) and I have always felt the kids are safe etc..
