Hi all,
Im still looking for a defender 110 hardtop or pickup and I have a few questions that after searching I cant find the answer to yet - specific to the defender 110.
Ive read threads that talk about converting from a hardtop 110 (3door) to a csw 110 (5 door) and the complexity involved. Also converting a 110 hardtop (3door) to a pickup body which seems a lot easier - Which is what attracts me to the landrover defender - such a versatile vehicle!
Trying to widen my options and find out what i can do - If I bought a defender county station wagon 110 (5 door), how easy is it to convert to a hardtop 110 (3 door)?

Also how easy is it to convert a defender CSW 110 to a 3 door pickup body.
Would that be a case of romoving the rear seats, 2 rear passenger doors and posts, and roof, then getting a (cheap) rear tub and a pickup cab.
The thing Im not clear about is the floor sections on the csw and whether the rear bulkhead is attached to the new rear tub?

Sorry if this post seems a bit messy and a silly question but if anyone has the answers or has done this - that would be a great help in what my purchasing options might be. Thanks

it would be a lot cheaper to buy a 3 door than buying a 5 door csw

Do you mean in terms of the extra expense of getting the other bits to do the swap? your probably right about that! & the time it takes for the bits to become available at right price.
I agree with you that its better to get what you want in the first place but Im still curious about the ease/ difficulty of 110 conversions from a 5 door csw to a 3 door pickup? whats needed etc - also is there any chassis differences?

am not 100% sure but i think the chassis on a 110 csw has an extra out rigger for the 2nd row doors but not sure as ive never done that type of conversion before but at the end of the day the whole thing is just nuts an bolts so it can't be that hard someone will be along soon who will be able to shed a bit more light on the subject

if converting from 5 door to 3 door you will need to change the tub and yes rear b/head is connected to the tub. 3 door cheaper to buy in the first place.

The floor plates in the rear of the CSW? how many peices are there from the back of the wagon to the front drivers seat box?
- and would the outriggers (I assume maybe wrongly, they're for the second door posts) - do they get in the way of anything or need to be cut and ground off?

the more I find out about defenders the more I like their versatility - Ive never come across a vehicle thats so versatile - beginning not to worry which 110 I get!

to swap bodies 3 door van to 5 door csw ,chassis are same but csw has extra cross member no longer available from lr but would be from chassis firms and body mounting brackets that bolt to chassis,to convert to either means complete back body swap

Thanks for all your replies - has cleared my mind somewhat :)
If any you have more info on this or any pictures it, links etc - would be interesting to see!

Interesting, I have just bought a 110 3dr and was wondering about converting it to a 5dr. Once you have removed the rear tub is it just a case of bolting on the new cross member or is it welded in place? how long should it take to do the conversion? again any piccys would help :)

just bolt on no welding ,cross member on top of chasis ,brackets on out riggers and whole body bolt to seat box etc if buying body to fit ensure you get everthing including above and toe panel bolted to rear of seat box often gets left with seat box
