Will play in steering column ujs make steering shudder when hitting bumps etc?

Yes as will worn track rod ends, swivel pins, bearings, bushes....

ive got play on both ujs and can hear then creaking and moaning when manouvering at slow speeds

Try changing them and then keeping them well greased!

Mines more a vibration, it feels like it's from front right side, all the bushes look knackered to be fair so that's the first thing I'm changing also have slight play in steering wheel so will check those components, will end up with a new landy when I've eventually finished

You can get vibration from knobbly tyres as well!

Keeping an eye on this incase my vibration still isn't gone after I swap the axle

Makes sense, fitted m/t after having a/t and the vibration has got worse, there was slight vibration with the a/t though that's why I think it's more then tyres, bushes need replacing throughout the vehicle, so no harm in doing this first and go from there, think I will opt for poly ones for ease of fitment

As will any combination of these problems, and add worn shocks and steering damper to the list.
