Changed batteries in both keyfobs and now both refuse to work. LED doesn't activate when lock or unlock buttons are pushed. Rover doesn't recognize the key to deactivate the alarm system. A vehicle down due to a keyfob, this just grips me like you can't believe. Dealership says fob is most like dead, whatever that means, and I'll have to purchase a new one for almost $400 bucks! This Rover has been a moneypit since I purchased it. I see on line where I can purchase the fob for just over a $100 bucks but then I have to take it to the dealer. Anyone out there had similar problems? How does the electronics in a fob suddenly decide to stop working even with a new battery set?

They sold me two new fobs pretty cheap last year and I had to send them the box from above the passengers left foot so they could program them but it was all painless (apart from Australia Post sitting on the package for eighteen days) and cost under 140 pounds including postage to PNG

I had a similar problem. My alarm/immobiliser hasn't worked correctly for a few months then it decided to start arming itself like it should but when I inserted the key it wouldn't auto disarm as it should do. I only found this out at 05:30 in the morning trying to get to work! (sorry to all my neighbours!) this happened a few times until it left me immobilised on th petrol station forecourt with the alarm blaring!
Mine is a 96 defender 300tdi so I got out my tools and an hour later had the alarm in bits and the engine running.
What model/ year is yours?
