Took my disco to my mate to check the oil leak as had gotten really bad.

He's told me the bottom end is fkd basically, pressurising to the point it's shooting oil out all over the shop, blew 3 bungs on the engine, spraying it out.

So, if I get a second hand engine, it could be a heap of **** also.. if I get a recon I'm guessing I'm looking pretty mega money?

There are a few other bits needing sorting, new exhaust is one, amounting to about £500 total, then new engine. Also apparently my boot floor showing signs of rusting. MOT due end of the month.

Advice? Opinions? Sympathy? :D

I'm thinking if it's showing rust, plus the cost of the other bits I'm better off getting rid and buying a new one, td5 perhaps.

If I go down this route, what could I expect it could be worth spares/repairs?

Oh, also anyone know if a soft wrap around bull bar from my disco 300 would fit onto a td5?

Just bought two crates of beer to cheer myself up :beer2:

breaking it for spares ya looking about £600 depending on how long you hang on to it and how well bits sell for. and then weigh what ever is left as scrap.. If you sell the chassis Don't give the buyer the V5 and inform DVLA it's been scrapped. This prevents someone from stealing a disco and using ur old plates.

The selling bits is a bit of an issue, I live in a flat with sod all parking outside, and very little mechanical knowledge :D I'll bear that in mind though, and the theft thing, cheers.

Sorry to read your post, you can buy second-hand engine off internet with 1 month warrantee from scrap yards I’ve done it a few times, what exactly is the problem with the engine? Pressurising is normally down to head gasket
Exhaust is not that expensive if you shop around, as to the rusty bits again they can be put right.

Right, text my mate asking in non laymans terms (its ****ed mate, new engine :D ):

"Rubber plugs have blown out the top of the block just above where the camshaft runs through the block. Oil is pouring from the holes. Also breathing heavily from oil filler cap. Takes 15 seconds of cranking to start. Leaking oil from back of rocker cover gasket. Pretty much certain worn piston rings causing excess crankcase pressure."

guy in mould sells engine cheap. I've got one in mine, paid £150 for it. does a lot of stuff very cheap. can pm you his number if you want. just a simple case of getting it palleted to you should be around £50-£100

Cheers but having just taken a td5 out for a test drive, I'm getting one :D Had the 3 holes where the bungs shot out filled in with ally, will do for a few days then I'll decide what to do with it.

and.. THANKS MINTY AND REDHAND :D
