I looked at an L Series local to here that had been standing for about 18 months - it to had mold all over the steering wheel and all round the cabin really, sunroof had been leaking badly and was all rusted away. It had been parked up with the handbrake on and the back wheels were locked solid! Being in NZ though, the woman wanted £2.5K for it :)
 
I should also add that the car sounded like a tractor.

Exhaust / manifold? Or could this be related to the cylinder 4 misfire that was logged?

I will happily clamber about over the car to look at things as long as I know where I'm going.

hi there, av got 2 v6s now, a 51 and an 04, misfire on cylinder 4 is middle of the back bank, bit of a pig to get at, u have to take of the black air box and all the breather pipes, if u get that far put 3 new plugs in the back and swop the coil to the front, so if the coil is at fault u don't have to strip it down again, u can pull the coil of the plug exstension to the back ones, the coils on the front have plug leads, av snaped my brake fluid switch aswell, it still works, just hanging loose, av been trying to find out wot that reading 1319 was, now av red your listings I no now, thanks v6 ken.

Sunroof seems to be OK. The dampness inside is due to the tailgate window being open.
I realise it may be a challenge but I fancy it and I like the colour. Sound like a girl!

I don't have the V6 any more, but glad it helped!
 
If it doesn't have MOT then its worth little more than scrap value which at the minute is less than £100. If it's a project your after then that is a project all right. Take a look at the way my TO DO list is still growing and think again, I suspect yours will be bigger and as no propshaft then a lot more expensive.

I am fully aware that it makes no financial sense. Let's be clear on that.
Just fancy it. I'll always have an eye on costs and if it looks like it has any silly money jobs required then I'll get rid.
I sold my largely-dead V6 for £600, and that b@stard was scary.
 
LOL, maybe I'm far too sensible. Then again I just bought one with a suspect head gasket, three dodgy windows and all the usual Freelander issues so maybe not.
Anyway so long as you're going in with eyes open you'll have a lot of fun and hopefully a nice car at the end.
I'd still be inclined to haggle the price down though. Start at £150 and see where it goes.

I'll be ignoring 4WD issues initially in favour of MOT. Starting with oil, coolant, PRT, belts, water pump etc. It has only done 75k so I have my fingers crossed. Tempted to do the HG, oil rail, dowels etc BEFORE it cooks, but I will see where I'm at.
 
At 75k it's probably already had a new HG so I'd be inclined to stick with servicing for now. I know what you mean though as I was thinking the same as I did the timing belt on Gertrude.
 
If I had a KV6 again I'd go straight out and get a Hawkeye.
Question - does the Hawkeye do enough (or anything) on a 2000MY K-series to make it worth the cost?
If not, is there anything that does above and beyond a cheapo ELM reader and my copy of Torque Pro?
I expect the Locust to light up like a Christmas tree when I get to key-in state! There will be many amigos....
 
Just had an email from dealer saying that he has dug the car out from the back of the lot and he 'could drive' the 'lander round to mine tomorrow! :eek:
Now that has to be a good thing...
Suggested a trailer instead as the oils and belts are of unknown provenance. I don't imagine the brakes are too hot either.
Just chuffed she's a runner :):D

Can't move it though. Missed the seller so he just left it but took the keys. Have to wait until he passes on the way home.
 
Seller did drive it here. Said they just charged the battery and off it went. Left it running for 2 hours and no signs of boiling.
Had a short run in it (off the public highway m'lud) and it purred along nicely.
Handbrake needs attention (doesn't stay up), tail door handle broken, drivers door inside handle doesn't work.
No leaks from sunroofs.
Wet fish tank, but then the tail windows has been down for 3 months!
 
BTW, is it just me or do the tyres look totally lost in the arches....? Need to check the size when it is lighter.
What should the distance from hub to wheel arch be normally?
Think it would benefit from those long roof bars that make it hard to get the roof off.

Do you really think the dampness came from the tailgate ? That looks like it has lots of moisture inside.

£350 is amazing a right Top Gear Effort ...
