Hi everyone,
I was cleaning the wheels on my 2010 D4 today and noticed this very corroded metal panel under the mid section of my car.

Can anyone identify what this is called please, so I can order the correct replacement.

I’ve attached a couple of photos.

Does it hold the fuel tank up?

I’m just a little worried that the fuel tank could drop off 😟

Thank you 🙏

Indeed holds the tank up , would first get it inspected by a fabrication company to see if they can make something up to tide u over until a new or decent second hand tank cradle can be found

plus would keep the refill amount down to a bare minimum that will get u through a few days, also seen it on other D3/4 discoveries

wonder if it would be possible as a temporary measure to fit some ratchet straps as an extra precaution

hope that helps

Part number WFN000014, not bad price for a genuine new one £250, not too difficult to change urself as u could empty the tank or get it virtually empty , support it with some other axle stands / jacks along with some mates to help, gettimg some new bolts and also ensuring the old ones come out before replacing , spray the bolts for a few weeks beforehand

also seen some as an extra support of using straps, cradle weighs around 13 Kg

plus would be very tempted to give it a few coats of dinitrol before fitting, also calling the company before hand to ensure it’s the correct part number in case there are any changes, including part number superseded

as a side note I think a full 18 x gallon tank would weigh around 130 ilbs , if it’s approx 7 ilbs per gallon

hope that helps

That is just a minor wound, I would happily run that, mine is worse and had passed last two (legit) mots with no mention.

Cheers,
In the second (the thumbnail) picture,
Just to the rear of the arrow (and rusted bolt), you can see that the corner of the cradle/shield has completely disappeared and the fuel tank is visible.

I’m on about a quarter of a tank at the moment and was afraid to fill it up.

Having said that, I’ve checked all the other bolts and surrounding metal and they all look very sound.

If you look closely at the second picture you can see the corner of the fuel tank.

Do you think it’s still ok to fill it up?

Cheers

I apologise I did not see that 2nd pic!
I think your gut instincts are correct.
