D2 Autobox trouble

i have had the "S&M" lights flashing on the dash, I thought it could be the XYZ switch but a friend who is infinately more knowledgeable than me plugged it into his diagnostics box and a fault came up "Pressure switch failure"
He suggested to check the condition of the oil to see if the box was caput and not to drive it until we know it's condition.
Is a pressure switch repairable or had the box got to be changed?
Who has the answer.
 
what was the "diagnostic box" and diesel or petrol,if TD5 and not dedicated tester result's / fault not allways reliable, possibally just a good fluid and filter change required, fingers crossed :)
 
Forgive my ignorance, but my td5 threw up the occasional fault on starting if i had weakened the battery by leaving the boot door open for a while.
 
I know you had it faults read but .How old is its battery , as the brain for the auto box is very fussy about getting the right voltage and can start to trigger s&m light , if the battery is getting old cuz thats what happened to mine , just something else to check
 
The diagnostic box was a type that covers just about all makes, the battery has been sluggish due to not being used for up to 3 months. I asked the question if it could be the battery and I was told no. I have had this happening for some months and as you guys have suggested its when the battery is on the low side.
Should I still have a look at the condition of the oil, if so how is it best to do this.

It deffinitely can be the battery if is it's not in the best shape... as about the fault code forget about it cos it's an OBD2 code and a multivehicle tester as long as it can't select the autobox ECU to scan it individually it's irrelevant... only dedicated tester is reliable in this case

What he said - Disco 2 diesel needs dedicated tester ( Hamkeye, nanocom, Lynx, testbook ($$!)) IMHO, generic is less use than a chocolate fireguard.

If you haven't changed it in your ownership of the vehicle - then it'd be a good idea to do it and filter now IMO. Easy job. Found a video on the tube of you:-

I had an Ashcroft H/D torque converter put in 30k or so miles ago so oil etc would have been done then but worth doing again do you think?

Yep, do it NOW :D - seriously, an oil change is the cheapest maintenance you will ever do - and ATF is such a fickle thing - as JM says, change it.....

(if it gets hot, the poor thing :rolleyes:, >100 degrees, it loses so much of its lubricity, it becomes rubbish)

Can I ask what you think of your HD converter please - mine is going to need doing soonish......

The Ashcroft converter made a huge difference, changing up and down improved and in low range it is so much better, made to do the job.
An oil change is going to be done.

@Lyn - How are you getting on finding a curing this fault ? did you do an oil change ? change the battery? or ???
