the wife went out in the car the other day and it started fine
pulled over turn it off came back to it 5 minutes later it started then just cut out
it then was just spinning on the starter
called the 4th emergency service and it started straight back up bloody typical
anyway got to drive it home and it then cut out on my driveway
this was on wednesday evening
tried it today and it started fine
its a 99 4.0se
could it be fuel pump or maybe crank sensor?

Check the obvious first, i.e. cables from battery, especially earth strap; but yes diagnostics good idea.
Good luck with it, let us know how you get on.

bit of an update
cables are all fine
no codes from the lynx
car started fine fine from cold so i left it ticking over it got to normal temperature and cut out
left it around 15 minutes and then it started again, got to normal temperature and cut out again
i could feel the fuel pump relay clicking in and out so i presume this is ok
so based on the above would it be the crank sensor?

Could be temp sensor if cutting out when engine gets hot. I'd get it on some proper diagnostics otherwise it could be an expensive guessing game.

brand new bosch crank sensor fitted and its not starting
showing a fualt on the dash now when i stop turning it over
fault that is showing is traction failure
sod all wrong before it cut out

Crank sensor is ok
AA said its the ring on the flywheel which the crank sensor uses
Possible....There is a peg(s) fitted at spaced intervals that the CPS picks up on to determine position of the engine cycle.

If a peg has been knocked off it is highly likely the engine won't start....

Take the CPS out and rotate the engine by hand and see if you can see the peg(s)

i thought the thor flywheel has the gaps cut into the flywheel for the cps
or does it have a seperate ring for the cps thats bolted to the flywheel

thats what i was thinking as ive looked at flywheels for sale and they seem
to be machined on the back to suit the cps
so what else could it be
as he got a reading from the cps when off the car
but when bolted up and engine turning over there is no reading on his computer
and no error codes
still cant explain the traction failure fault message either
