How and what do you use to stop the windows rattling please

Get a piece of plastic milk bottle and cut a piece about 3/4 of an inch wide and maybe 3/4 inches long, then score out in the middle a 5/6mm (measure the glazing) track and fold it into a C section, slide the windows then force then into the runner and run the glazing over it, no more rattle. Worked for me for nearly 8 years before I removed them and put in a single piece of glass.

Thanks for that also - I've seen threads on this subject before and never really understood what the writer was talking about. It was probably okay if you were familiar with the materials which were recommended to be used, but I wasn't so therefore left it alone. For some time I have been using the sticky backed felt pads used on chair and table legs to prevent damage to flooring, but they deteriorate fairly quickly and due to the stickiness, can be difficult to push in to spaces where you want them.

I'm off to the shop to get some milk!

Cannot recommend this enough.

Mine used to drive me crazy, and even worse on fast gravel roads.

It's not cheap, and it's not quick, but if you follow the instructions exactly, it's a simple enjoyable job.

Give everything a good clean whilst it's apart and you end up with windows looking like brand new.

What year is yours? I believe that only does up to 300tdi, as later windows didn't use rivets so are harder to remove or replace.

Can I make an amendment to my measurements, I mean three quarters of an inch wide, but I mean 3 to 4 inches long! It looks like I have said a 3/4 in square.

My front sliding windows rattled like mad as the felt was totally knackered. The LR replacement felt worked out at a small (or medium) fortune but I found this felt strip at £2.50 for 6 ft. It folded in half and fitted the channels perfectly. Now there are no more rattles, and even better no draft (at least from the windows):
