Don't ya'll shout at me now.. I know its french and newfangled and stuff... but.. I've seen enough perkins prima conversions to be doing one myself.. but.. i've always wondered, could a Peugeot XUTD 1.9 TD be fitted to a series landy? it's just.. I know where i can get one with serious power mods.. and.. theres millions and millions of them about..

Could be good..

you can put anything in a landy I read an article in LRO/LRM with a whole list of engines that will go in a series III and the peugeot 1.9 out of an LDV was one of the engines on the list. Steve parkers site is probably the best place to look.

steve's site does not mention the 1.9.. and i googled before i posted.. I'd like to see if i can bolt up a '07-on landie's 6spd gearbox to a series transfer case with some economical, but reasonably powerful engine - it MUST have a bosch fuel pump though, to be capable of running vege oil.. I've seen an R380-series trsf case conversion.. I don't want to lose the 2wd capability of the series vehicle esp as it already has freewheel hubs..

I've got a really early(tax exempt.. F you, gordon brown) S3 and although i love it to death, to me, part of the point of owning a landie is to mod it to suit requirements..It'd be an engineering feat i could be proud of to make a nice to drive, cheap to run, decent landie out of it).. Plus, i've made enquiries about insurance, researched parts etc.. I reckon i could get a year's daily running out of it for around the £500-750 mark - free fuel see.. if you catch my axle tramp...

Yeah.. 2.3/5 pug diesels.. Good engines. a turbo one'd be quite quick too.. All depends on the veg oil capability of it. I was looking at the 1.9 as I know most of them will run veg oil 100% fine and theres MILLIONS of them.. they're probably the most common diesel around at the moment. It'll fit too i'm sure.. it's whether it's powerful enough to be viable in a S3 SWB that bothers me.. and getting it to mount to a gearbox

I'm trying to find an engine solution that can be replaced cheaply and easily if i blow it up. For this, there needs to be a reasonable amount of engines in scrap.. I've been considering a Transit 2.5Di engine as they cost peanuts and again, there's good availability.. but.. they're way loud, and i've been told don't make a lot of torque. The point is i'm looking at doing the high ratio gear mod to the transfer case and possibly even raising the diff ratio a tad to make it's viable cruising speed a bit better. Also to do this i'm prepared to swap the gearbox from the 4spd to something 5 or 6..

What i should really do is buy a disco, their road capabilities suit me more.. but i'm up for, and enthusiastic about the project to make a landy nice on the road (for a landy, anyway) - Just love landys...

I've been thinking the same myself.
If you source a LDV City van version then they already have, I think, a LT77 or R380 gearbox so instead of an engine adapter you would need is a transfer box adpater - available from Ashrcofts.

:D paul you genius :D Looking at google, the LDV pilot came with a 1.9D. LDV cityvan appears to be the 2.1.. Although our pukey's got a 1.9D and it's a great engine i'd be looking at a 1.9TD.. but it can't be that different..

What i'm going on is the fact that although these engines/gboxs may be slightly different, but, for reasons of economy, there can't be that much physical difference between them all - It'd be crazy for PSA, for example, to make 30 different 1.9 diesel blocks, which would need 30 block making moulds.. Knowing that PSA 4cyl diesels have been fitted to vehicles with the same gearbox as land rovers means it should be possible to adapt using combinations of PSA engine to land rover type transmission/ adaptors..

Also, what's the betting we see a kit manufactured (prob by ashcroft) to put the 6spd '07 on transit based gearbox into a defender, replacing R380/LT77 at some point.. In fact i'm going to email them about this very swap. This is looking very, very good for series owners like us :D

this is all too complicated.
we just need someone to come up with a way of making the land rover 2 1/4 diesel a bit more powerfull.
Anyone got any bright ideas?????????
