Hi folks.

Hope everyone is well and had good christmas.
I have had my freelander into specialist in northumberland today with brake issues. He advised i have incorrect (early freelander 15 inch rims fitted). My question is, how can i find correct style of rim that was fitted when car was delivered?

Cheers in advance.

Hello

Apologies for intro but never really use forums. Thought polite would be better way to start.

The guy said something about alloy wheel pressing against hub or similar. Suggested a spacer of sorts but doesnt sound good to me due to stud length. Would rather get correct rims. Not really mechanically minded but would like to learn, save garage bills.
Only had the car short time and bills are mounting.

Cheers

He's talking ****e . You have a good choice of tyre in the 15" . I would contact my nearest dealer , give them your reg and /or chassis number , the exact year and model might be enough for them to find the wheel size it was fitted with in the factory .

:welcome:

I would of thought it would be catching on the brake caliper. Any chance you could post a pic of your wheels? They should have dimples between the wheel nuts.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to post a picture tomorrow.
Starting to wish i'd saved up for a disco after all but hey ho you learn by your mistakes.
Oh and spending a fortune! So far ive put a new VCU on, no.2 injector, intercooler hoses. I have done breather myself and also blanked off EGR valve after following this forum for a while.
Cheers

My 2005 fl1 has 15" wheels on, don't know what you mean about it pressing into the hub? They bolt on to the hub

If your mechanic is right the wheels you have are early ones from before there was a TD4 model. A TD4 has the bigger brakes so the early wheels don't fit correctly.

You don't say which spec you have - S, SE, HSE - or Sport.

Here's a link showing all the wheels that will fit your car - including the part numbers. Ignore the fact it's American. You can find most of them on eBay - they come up regularly - but you need to check the part numbers to avoid buying more early wheels which at a glance, look the same.

Freelander Alloy Wheels : The Wheel Warehouse Inc., Your Source for Factory Original Rims - Call us at (800)941-6400

Tell us which spec your car is and we can tell you which wheels it would probably have left the factory with.

Oh, and :welcome: to LandyZone by the way.

Thanks singvogel.

After looking around Internet, they look like 15 inch adventure.
My car is 2005 td4 5 door S.

Many thanks

I would think the original fitment could well have been 5 spoke 15" 'Adventure' wheels - but the 5 spoke 16" 'Freedom' wheel was an extra-cost option.

I find it surprising that the wrong wheels can turn without hitting the calipers and/or making one hell of a racket. I thought it was impossible to drive the car with the earlier wheels.

Get a second opinion - OldIrishWulf may well be right - your mechanic could be talking ****e.

SV.

It's possible for early wheels to fit a later car when the brake pads are worn - mine was like this, only found out I had the wrong wheels fitted on the front when I changed the discs and pads.

Thanks for the replies folks. I will leave as is for the minute. I am going to have a go stripping front brakes and fitting new parts myself as driver side pin is siezed. I will put new pads in at same time and try wheels on then.
Loads of 05 plate s models advertised on internet have my wheels fitted. They all cant be incorrect surely.

Thanks again for all the help.
