Hi all,

Just a quick question is thier anything that could cause the coolent reservior cap to come loose, it seems once its hand tight it works loose after around 200 miles ?

Ive just ordered a new cap today just incase its the cap which is the issue ? but could anything else cause this ?

Thx in advance for any info

Interesting, not heard of that before.

As the coolant temp increases with the engine running it will create pressure in the reservoir which will try and push that cap off, but they are tight enough not to shift.

Maybe the threads on your tank/cap are a more 'slippery than normal.

It could be made worse by the pressure release valve in the cap not working properly enabling to much pressure to build up, but that might also create other problems. I'm not sure what pressure it should hold, but might be worth getting it checked at a garage. It would probably be cheaper to get another cap than get it checked, but I've got them previously and the new one has been worse than the old one - so I will get new caps checked in future.

Hi

Thx for taking the time to reply, i only noticed it a few months ago as the fuild was a bit low and noticed the cap was loose so i just presumed the when it was last topped up it wasn't tight enough. So i just topped it up and tightened and a few hundred miles later seems loose again but no fluid loss as i check it after a long jorney.

Will try the new cap when it comes see if that helps... :)

Thx

That is a strange one.
My FL2 cooling system hardly ever get hot enough to generate any pressure.

Coolant loss can be an issue with them, after a replacement water pump has been fitted, as the pump drain plug is often not tight from the factory, but I've never heard of a cap coming loose.
