Hi All.
I have a 2003 Kalahari TD4 with approx 125k on the clock. After a drive to the seaside last weak the car seemed to lose power and I just about managed to limp home over the Devon countryside in thick fog in the early hours of the morning. On inspection the following day, the coolant header was empty (not an uncommon occurrence after a long drive) so I topped up with OAT antifreeze. Usually only takes about half a litre, but this time took 2 litres. I ran the engine for 10 mins to look for leaks, and after a cool down period checked again and was able to put another 2 litres in. No wonder my journey home was so laboured (temp gauge up and fans going permanently). Did 25 miles yesterday and checked levels today finding header nearly empty. Topped up and have now found a leak that hadn’t found before. Now continually leaking from right side of the engine sort of underneath the EGR and back a bit. Having read a number of similar posts, could this be a ‘core’ or ‘freeze’ plug as I’ve seen written? It continually weeps or actually fires out if the rad hose is squeezed. If the problem can be identified and a rough cost to rectify I can make decision if it’s time to get a new car (as I need 2x front tyres on top of anything else) or whether is worth spending to fix. Looks like it’s difficult to get to! Pics attached. Many thanks in advance.
