Weird one.

Just did a coolant flush because I had a good few drips from a good few hoses and suspected I was low on coolant. re positioned some circlips to hopefully stop the leaks.

Filled the system correctly, raised header tank etc, poured slowly I filled the system correctly until steady flow came out of bleed screw hole.

The system heats up normally and there is lovely hot air from the vents.

Since then there hasnt been any problems but today I popped the bonnet when she was cold to check levels.

The coolant level had dropped by half in the header tank and the bottom hose coming out of the water pump was bulging and hard to squeeze.

The top hose was normal and you could squeeze it.

When I opened the header tank cap there was like a pressure release or influx of air and the coolant level came back up to normal.

The bottom hose out of the water pump then returned to normal.

Anybody any ideas?

put a new tank cap an tighten it well before you blame anything else cos if the pressure release valve is blocked the pressure in the tank will rise above the necessary 1.4 bar and it will push back the coolant to the system

Good idea,

its a td5.

Theres no oil in the coolant anyway when i drained it it was bright orange, looked like the day i put it in.
