Hi all,

I had a post (Hello & Help) in December regarding a Brake Servo problem with a Converted 52 plate V6.

This is an update regarding the conversion. I took it Land Rover for a (Free) safety check up and the reason for 2 problems (right side speakers working depending how loud the music is and HDC not working).
They said that the conversion was a good job and no problems with that.
But the 2 problems would cost around £400 for an investigation.

I am well happy with the Freelander, only little daily issues that can always be resolved.
Currently in the middle of little/pimping :D mods, (pictures will follow once all has been finished, hopefully next week).

The speaker is probably rusted. What are the symptoms of the hdc?

Speakers been replaced with new FLY 6 intergracial component and traixal speakers. Near perfect fit just cut the mountings off the factory standard drilled 1 extra hole in the door. also used the connections on the factory speakers on the new ones. I'm thinking it could just be the cables need replacing or connections need to be changed.
HDC after reading a few posts could just be disconnected and need to check (i believe under the center console)
The green HDC light will come on briefly when i turn on the ignition but will not come on when selected in Reverse or 1st. no lights on the button or dash. not even fault light on dash.

Speaker is probably a bad connection then
My hdc button stopped working as it filled with dirt keeping the contacts from closing properly.

Hi there Nodge,
I checked the Speaker connections and that was the culprit. It works now :bounce:
I had a quick look at the connection to the HDC, i just removed the leather around the gear stick and it was still connected, i did not take off the plug and then re-connect it. I will do that on Monday and let you know how it goes.

I think that dirt can get down between the switch and it's surround probably because it's mounted flat. Mine was fine after a quick clean.

I checked the switch, took out the button. unplugged it, never saw any dirt or dust in the connection. cleaned the crap that was in the gear stick area and re-connected the plug placed everything back and still the same problem.
Would it be a fuse issue?
Thank you Nodge68 for your knowledge

If your switch is in the same place as mine then you need to test the switch contacts with a meter. Mine was full of dirt. The contacts are inside the switch not the connection on the back. No it won't be fuse related if you get the lights light up when the ignition is switched on.

Hey there Nodge,
I took off the switch, checked the contacts in the switch and no dirt. Also checked the connections and there is no power going into the plug that connects to the switch.
How would I be able to check where the cables are coming from and to see where / if it is disconnected from?
Cheers.

LR admit that the cables are no good ,as they were made in China ,I know I had it out with them and they replaced through a local dealer the new wiring , as this is why a lot of people suffer with things going wrong but they will not admit to that .it all used to be ok when they were made in England at rists wire and cables in Newcastle under lyme now it is all gone and this is why we suffer

Thanks for the info teddy,
I will ask my electrics mechanic to have a look at it if not I'll probably take it to a LR garage or service to rewire it. I will check the good LR garage Fred for one that's local.
It's a shame that the quality of cable has been replaced by the cost of the cable. What happened to good old English workmanship. ****er they would rather import cables and wires than use local trusted sources.
