2003 TD4 engine mgt light stays on but code reader says "no codes" engine turns over fine but doesn't fire. Went into safe mode briefly before dying completely - any clues??

When you crank, does rev counter move? Could be crank sensor. Or, does it even try to start? These engines suffer the electric fuel pump going down quite a bit!

Hi Rangiedaz
No -no movement from rev counter and no attempt to start. Eng mgt light stays on permanent.
Just opened sediment drain and fuel clean so I guess it's fuel filter/pump out in the morning see what I find. -Thanks for the response

When you say no code,s what are you using to read the ecu as on pre 2004 TD4 you need a L/R compatable code reader. If the light is on then there will be a code stored.
Would put my money on the pump give it a thump and see if it starts, been known to happen.

As Booboodag says pre 2004 diesels are not OB11 compliant so the codes can only be read and cleared on a LR diagnostic computer. Can you hear the LP fuel pump running when you switch on ? It should run for app 20 seconds whilst it's priming the system, pumps under the O/S/R wheel arch on your model (in case you weren't sure)
