I have an S Reg 300TDi Disco.
Mileage is coming up on 127,000. I have owned the vehicle for just over 2 years, and the majority of the mileage has been added in this time.

The last week or so it has developed a fault.

It maybe that not all of the following symtoms are relevant, but here goes.

About two weeks ago it started to squeek in that sort of "brake pad going" sort of way. Although the brake pads seem OK.

The last few days it has become very difficult to engage a gear. The clutch is OK, its just a sod to actually get the gear lever into a posiotion so that I can let the clutch pedal up.

I don't think the clutch has gone, although when in gear but clutch pedal depressed fully the engine rev counter slows down. Its as if the clutch isn't seperating correctly.

Any ideas?

Cheers

rev counter works off alternator, can you when stood engage 1st ,reverse ,gearbox would usualy have 2nd 3rd bad first ,if gear stick hard to locate properly would be bust bias plate .hard in all gears probably warped clutch diaphragm

I agree with all above, but try pumping clutch pedal (as you would brakes) first. Check it ain`t a fault on hydraulic side before dropping `box out??

this is probably whats hapend or is hapening

Hi all
Thanks for your comments. Given that its either the clutch or the selector thing, I'll do a clutch job on it. After all its coming up on 127,000 miles on its original clutch.

I'll do the Cam belt whilst I'm at it, then put it up for sale.

Cheers

Could be the release bearing, that would make a squealing noise and also put an extra load on the engine when the pedals fully depressed slowing the engines rpm down.
