:blabla:defender 90 td5, when i put it in reverse first thing i get a screeching noise from the clutch, and also when i change gear for the first five mins, it allways goes in to gear no problem, and after 5 mins driving the sound goes- any ideas please, is it a big or small problem, i had the mastercylinder changed recently, and they did'nt say anything, the noise was there before the master cylinder change, Help

Thanks Plod

is this an expensive job? will it breakdown all of a sudden?

Well gearbox or engine out for a start . The bearing alone wont cost that much but as your there a clutch might need changing ( do it now or have the same cost again to do it later ) as for the cost I wouldnt know as Id do it myself for the price of the bits , but someone might have had a garage do it to theres and be able to tell ya in a bit .

As for it breaking down , it might sieze up and you'll get a scrapping/grinding noise , its a case of it might last - it might not . you could still drive without a clutch ( if its not slipping anyway ) if it did go tho . ( if youve never had to do this before it might be difficult but with practice its easy ) .
