Whilst driving my beautiful 2002 td5 discovery my clutch (with no warning) stopped working with no resistance in the pedal and when trying to rev and put into gear whilst moving it won't go. I know it's going to be a big job but would like to take my time learning how to fix it ... can anyone help direct me to where to start ... is this a replace the clutch jobby? Thank you in advance

MIne is auto, but from general vehicle knowledge I would guess either a clutch hydraulic issue, or total release bearing failure, or the pushrod snapped or gone right through the arm.
Need to diagnose to say how difficult it will be.

I think..... If memory serves correctly; these are a bu99er for the metal pipe fro the clutch master to the slave cylinder letting air in.
I did a slave cylinder (on my brother's Disco LandMark 2003) on my back and had to pressure bleed it - in about 45mins
I then replaced the master cylinder in another 45mins - and did another pressure bleed (not done on the same day as the slave :-(
And then finally replaced the steel hydraulic pipe - at a cost of over 100 quid (about 2-3yrs ago.)
anyway.... that part of the job wasn't bad... so... I would recommend carefully looking at the master and slave cylinder connection pipe etc. for any signs of leaks and the likes.
(although; i've told you to look for something that is usually hard to spot)

For the life of me... I can't remember looking to see if it was a gearbox off job or not for the actual clutch - but luckily; i didn't need to replace the clutch.
he since sold it - so I cant be of anymore assistance I'm afraid.
although - the RAVE manual should help you!

actually looks like
Battery Off
Starter Off
Exhaust Front Pipe Off
Gear Lever Knob and Trim
Silencer of mountings.
Propshaft off
Handbrake drum off
Slave Cylinder off.
Support G/Box
Mounting Bolts out.
Disconnect LoRatio Connector
Remove Lucar Connections for Oil temp

Basically - the usuall stuff without pulling out the engine.... but it will be a heavy bu99er! you will need extra pairs of hands!

In Addition - to use the term "Clutch Jobby" would indicate that you are indeed on a steep learning curve!
I am completely a novice with engines, reading a lot and learning slowly. Changed the turbo exhaust gate and suspension to springs in my own so far so very early days.

Thank you got my friend round on Saturday to give it a go

check level in brake reservoir clutch master cylinder uses the same reservoir, you can see if level is below feed pipe for clutch m/c

glad to help - even an experienced mechanic would use the RAVE CD as a learning / educational tool. - unless they knew the car inside out and backwards!
(just waiting for the cynical comments now!)
