Hi Folks

Many posts on here refer to a clutch change how to guide for the disco 1 but try as i might i cant seem to find it. I have searched and no joy.
if someone could point me in the right direction then it would be most appreciated!
My aunt has a disco 1 with the clutch pedal to the floor problem and i suspect its the release arm gone so i will be pulling the box off at some point in the near future and any helpful suggestions would be great.

Thanks Griff

Official recommendation and Haynes recommendation is to remove the engine rather than the gearbox. However, many on this site say the gearbox is easier. When I did mine, me and a mate took the engine out and it was relatively painless.

Trick is getting the top belllhousing bolts out. Knack is jack engine up slightly, and then completely remove the engine mountings. You can then lower the engine and gearbox right down to allow you to get at the top bolts. Get about two foot of socket extension bars. One person under the car feeds this up to the bolt. Assistant can guide the socket on to the bolts in the engine bay and hold the socket in place, while the person under the car can undo the bolts with a ratchet.

As long as you can get a decent hoist, it's actually quite simple.

Good luck
Cheers!

this is the way i did mine, saves being on your back most of the day

Thanks for the replies but i'm hoping not to have to drop the engine. i have an engine crane so was going to strap the gearbox through the hole in the floor to reduce the need for manhandling it too much.
The clutch was replaced when the engine was changed last year so its just the arm i need to change and provided i can get enough room then i'll give the gearbox removal a try. I'm going to get some M10 threaded bar and slide it along that to assist with alignment.

there 2 bolts or one bolt and stud the secure top of t/box to gearbox if you hang chain on drivers side one it balances quite well

3 bolts on the top of the bell housing will be absolute pigs. Did a clutch in 5 hours pulling the engine in mine. Make sure you use a GOOD quality release bearing, not Britpart unless you want to do it all again in a month or so because your release bearing melts:eek::eek:. Get a hd fork as well. I didnt think engine out , or at least forward would be easier but it was.

If you don't weld buy a HD fork they're not expensive and change that too because it will be a massive pain in the hole to do all that work just for the fork to bust on you when you don't expect it.
