ive got a bit of rot on my defender 90 chassis its the part of the chassis were the rear axle a frame bolts to dont no what you would call that part cross member maybe. its not a problem at all to cut it out and weld in new metal but what i would like to no is if im cutting this section out to fit new would it be advised to position it 2 inches lower to compensate for my 2inch suspension lift kit hope this makes sence to some one im not very good at explaining situations many thanks .Tom

Makes sense but check prop shaft clearances as it runs close on the 90 and if you just lower it but not check pinion angle you could get some funky rear steer going on.

Makes sense but bear in mind this is a modification, with all due respect, unless you are a vehicle structural engineer you do not know the loadings/torquing etc on this component are and how they may respond to this alternation. Lot's of people lift their vehicles without this so I would just stick to the designed structure.

If things went wrong; due to this moficiation or something totally unrelated, your insurance may not pay out and if something really bad happened iut could end up with you in a cell with Bubba.
