I am interested in getting better driveability out of my td5 and have been told to change the transfer box gearing obtain from ashcroft ,this is the best way and then maybe remap it what are your thoughts

ok probably not the best choice of word, well better motorwaty cruising at less revs etc

Have you had a look a second hand D2 transfer box ?. They can be bought pretty cheap with verified milage and will drop straight in.
Coupled with a remap, you'll have great car to drive on the motorway.

Cheers.

get a disco 1.2 transfer box in there. This is the route i think iam going down as there is plenty around.

The Disco transfer box is what i did in a td5, does make a hell of a difference, but if i had the money i would have gone for an overdrive as i miss the lower gearing
Oh and i have a remap

i didnt know you could get an overdrive for fenders? how does that work? just a new 5th gear?

it seems like this is a popular option,i have a good lr specialist i am sure he would be able to do the change ,will think about this
cheers

I've just put a roverdrive on my 2002 Td5 110 and it's made a big differance.

Not cheap but I do a lot of heavy towing and it works well as a splitter between gears.

I had a GKN on my old 200 Tdi and that works much better as a splitter as it's a button on the gear leaver and doesn't need to depress the clutch to engage. Went for the roverdrive this time though as theres no electrics involved and it can be left engaged all the time if you want to
