Hello,

My 90 300tdi had all the usual stuff renewed, water pump, clutch, adjusted swivel pins, etc. The steering was not perfect, but I always assumed it was like that, a Defender steering. The little klunk it made during take off and braking was always assumed to be from the usual A-frame ball joint, which I would change as soon as I had time.

A further inspection revealed that the play was fron the top link bushes, rather than the ball joint.

Replacement was easy as it gets with a 15ton press, also with new bolts.
The result is astonishing.

The car is now much more silent, comfortable, stable, the steering is much more precise and stable, it feels like a new car.

Everyone should check the top link bushes. Replacement will give you a new car, quite a surprise

Hi mate, iv got that Klunk!
What bushes did you use?
Iv did them on my last landy and with cheapo bushes and they were as bad quick.

I used genuine LR bushes and bolts.
Next I'll also change the radius arms bushes, I have some play at the front of the arm.

Surely if your front arms have play as well it cant drive like a new car, quite the opposite in fact!

Sorry, when I said "radius arms" I meant trailing arms.

I paid £3,75 for each top link bush from PaddockSpares
