Hi,I read somewhere if you put a Defender transfer box in a Disco it would give you more down speed grunt because of the lower gearing,is this the case.

What's Down speed grunt???? If you mean more torque and less speed yes it will. Similarly if you put a disco box in a defender you'll get more speed but less torque. so **** at towing and when setting off.

PS lowrange is identical on both boxes. Only high range is affected.

Yes it's got 235/85/16 tyres and I'm having to change down at the smallest of hills, not bothered about top speed after all it's a landy.

You'll pull houses down but struggle to get over 70 if that's the road you're going down. Have you tweaked the fuel pump and removed egr and fitted straight thru pipe yet? If not you might want to try those mods before forking out for a defender transfer box.

Egr gone, there's no cat but middle box still in and not sure if the fuel pumps bin tweaked
It does smoked on overrun a bit so could do with injectors.
It doesn't go over 70 now anyway.

This is one reason why you have lost your "pulling power", larger diameter tyres effectively increase the gearing, a rough calculation suggests you have upped yours by 8 or 9% which is quite a lot.

Not withstanding any other issues you may have with your engine not producing full power, your tyre choice will make a significant difference to the road behaviour of your Disco.

my disco is running 33x12.5x15 tyres will sit at 60-65 my transferbox gave up so swapped it for another thought to be a 1:4 ratio as it pulls a lot better but lost abit of top end. believe denfenders run a 1:6 transferbox.

I'm running a defender transfer box on the 200 and for an old workhorse off the line it pulls and pulls, until 70/75 and that's it, however I towed a transit van weighing in at 2t with 1t of scrap in, from stationary and you couldn't tell it was pulling anything :)

It also suprises people when you pull on to a roundabout and you can out pull a standard car!
