Does anyone else have problems with their centre carrier bearing ?

I've had my 2002 esx Freelander for over 2 years now...centre carrier bearing was good up until a good few months ago, took it to garage and they replaced both at the same time. I supplied the part n it was britpart the ones they pulled off were the originals which I thought was good going given cars age. The parts I bought lasted 3 weeks n same whirring noise happened but it was down to a faulty part sent it back n got reimbursed for part n labour, then got garage to fix it again only this I got them to get the part since then it's now jus started whirring again only after about 6/7 months of it being replaced. Is this a common thing or should I just spend out the extra cash and get land rover genuine parts than wasting my money on aftermarket. Any one any advice or tips?

Also while I'm doing a thread I'm looking to put an outside thermometer in my Freelander I saw a thread and there was one with a user called 50cc who posted a pic of a digital thermometer that was fitted into the ashtray of the centre console. I just wanted to know if anyone knew where it was bought as link doesn't work no more :( or does anyone know where I could buy one that I can wire up so it doesn't depend on batteries also I'd prefer it to have a green backlight checked on eBay and can only seem to find ones which are either too big or it's a blue or orange backlight. There are some green backlit ones but they are too wide as I really want to fit into the car dash or make it integrated somehow.

Apologies for the length and being fussy but if anyone has suggestions they'd be most welcome and if I find the right thermometer myself ill put up details where I got it and photos of it installed :)

I wouldn't buy Britpart again.

Genuine OE LandRover VCU mounts are made by GKN and have a FAG bearing in red rubber in the centre. LandRover charge approx £80 + VAT each for them - they come in a pretty LandRover cardboard box.

Exactly the same GKN mount, with the same FAG bearing in the same red rubber centres can be bought from Foundry4X4 for £27 a pair inc VAT.

Only difference is they come in a GKN box. Super fast delivery too.

You pays yer money and takes yer choice.

(The poster cut off the cigar plug and wired it directly onto a 12v source in the console).

I certainly would never buy Britpart again either, absolute cr@p..

My originals were changed as a matter of coarse with a new VCU and were in good nick. I fitted Britpart items, the bearings made more noise than a 747, changed the bearings inside the rubber carriers for FAGs, noise stopped, but at 50 or above they shook the car to bits due to the rubber being too hard.
Bought genuine ones and problem gone straight away, (although no mention of GKN on them and didn't have FAG bearings, so someone was up to no good!) until a year later when the rubber on one had fallen to pieces!
Ended up getting GKN ones from John Craddock, fingers crossed...
Not as cheap as Foundry though!!
