Hi folks
When I press the key to open the doors the red light in the dash flashes, but doesn't open the doors.
I can open the drivers door with the key then put in the ignition and press the opening button in the dash and all the doors open.
But will not open or close on the key.
The spare key is fooked so cant try. the battery in the key is brand new.
any ideas please ?

do you mean that the red LED flashes rapidly when you hit the fob? and the indicators are flashing too? ...also when you lock with fob does it arm the alarm?

yes to both but hadn't noticed the indicators

then it's a quite complicated issue cos it means that the BCU gets the signal from the receiver as it works on the alarm but it doesnt output the signal to IDM which must activate the latches...though the signal from the dash switch goes to BCU too and as the output from BCU to IDM is on the same data link i can presume only a BCU internal fault which stops the BCU to output the door lock/unlock request only on receiver demand, as it works on switch demand

if you dont have a clue about what i mean any further explanation would be useless anyway

Try this. Open the door with the key, then lock it immediately with the fob. Then attempt to open the doors with the fob. Works for me in cold weather.
