car starts in drive

hi all again. r/r classic 3,5v8 auto. well been working on me classic and only by luck did i discover the thing starts in drive. now i know autos should not start in drive gear selected. so i got under neath and to the driver side of the auto gearbox found this plug connector not connected .so i tried to find the bit from loom that connects to it but could not find anything. now does any one know how many connections come from the autobox and what colour the wires are that come from the loom .please.or were i should be looking or what else can be the problem

4 wires in the connector 2 for reverse lights 2 for inhibitor,wires must be joined at the loom as disconnecting plug prevents starting

As u have found with the plug disconnected it does NOT prevent starting so to prevent starting other in D and N you will need it tobe plugged in.
The plug u have found is plugged in to a socket that is fitted to the box behind the selector operating rod, u may find there's an inspection cover on the transmission tunnel which is held by 12 screws will give y better access the the socket.

hi james do you know the colour of the wires from loom because i did see some loose wires hanging from passenger side under bonnet.thanx

ha.well now sorted found the wires .reverse lights green wire with a brown strip. and a 2 green. then other 2 wires black. then black orange stripe.
