Fitted mine tonight amoungst having a good play in the engine bay and getting absolutely everywhere covered in thick black oil...

Now I think I have fitted it the right way. There was a bit near the MAF where it said to put a white dot. What will happen if I got this the wrong way.

Now I should have got used to the car standard really but the lack of power started frustrating me (and its an auto). I think it feels faster but I'm not 100% convinced.

Also should the MAF and POWER switches be pointing down. It defo felt better with them pointing down not up. I'll see when I'm on the motor way tomorrow.

I'm using setting 2 as I only have the bosch MAF and an auto box. I'd put it on 3 but I'm worried I'll break the auto box.

hi

ive got a 2002 td4 auto, and mine is on setting 2 with the maf compensator turned on,

if u go higher i personally found the box didnt seem to change as nice and ron who lroduces the synergy advised me on that setting, to which ive done

ref to power the best thing is to do some mods to it

egr bypass, replace the crankcase filter with the modified bmw one, check when the air and oil filter has been done, there is also an inline turbo filter right near the back of the engine near the maf sensor, it only has one tube on it and just sits at the back

plus ref the white dot, if u get it the wrong way round it wont run correctly

check out also when the oils were last replaced in the auto box, ird, and rear diff, check ur pads and rear shoes, rear fuel filter, so u know what has and hasnt been done

hope that helps and there is a vast amount of info on here regarding all the mods etc

If you get the MAF connector (white dot) the wrong way round it runs the same as disconnecting the MAF - goes like hell but eats fuel.

If you get the fuel connector the wrong way round the engine will run like a bag of bolts (if it even starts) and the Engine Management Light will come on.

Mine is a late 2004 Auto. My auto-box only uses a little more fuel than the manual and in the real world the acceleration is not any worse than with the manual. Unless the manual is driven by a certain J Clarkson who will start by dropping the clutch at high revs and snatching the gear changes, anybody can take off from a standing start pretty smartly.

I have a Pierburg MAF so both switches need to be down - which is the 'on' position.

With a Bosch you only need the switch nearest to the knurled screwy knob bit to be on, as the 2nd switch is the PB MAF compensator.

I'm running on setting 8 which is equivalent to your 3 as the PB uses number 6 to 10 whereas the Bosch is from 1 to 5.

3 or 8 is listed as giving High Torque and Medium Power

Unless you have definite proof of an ATF change recently I would advise that you do that soon as the auto box is very sensitive to both the correct fluid and the correct level.

But do NOT start into changing the fluid until you have spent some time reading up on the correct procedure for draining and refilling/checking levels - and ensuring you know which bolts NOT to take out. Some folks have been known to remove a bolt which affects the reverse gear, in the belief it's the drain plug.

thks buddy , i knew u would be along and apologies getting some of it wrong, lol

great advice as always, i keep meaning to turn my maf compensator on, running with the bosch and on number 2 and the 3 way switch on red for max mpg as its the old style where i have to turn the engine off first

I am running the Bosch maf but the car seems to run better with the compensator on. Finding it hard to work out whether or not it is much faster. Also seemed to proof more smoke out the back when I accelerated today.
