Hi All
Can you please tell me if it is possible to fit the body of a 5door 1998 v8 to my 3 door 1993 200tdi,
Would really like your views on this as the body on my 200tdi is in need of serious repairs, i am even struggling to get the head light adjusters:(.

Sorry James, Just read the reply on the other thread and you have already answered this question:)
What wiring? what about the glow plug sensor?
Never done this and dont know anyone who has

the difference between v8 body and 200 running gear ,like you wont need pump feed for tank just sender ,coil feed will need to become stop solenoid ,efi loom unplugging behind clutch pedal etc

glow plug relay can be wired in easily enough though you dont have to should start without it if engines sound, can let you know if needed relay pins are numbered

Was thinking of dropping my engine in the V8 body, what a mistake of a question that was,
Did not know if it was possible, i now know not:)
Think i will go the the way of changing the bodies over now, any idea of how long it would take a novice

depends on body mounts (14mm or 9/16),dont forget hand brake ,fuel filler pipe, steering linkage ,brake pipes ,earth straps, clutch pipe ,etc a couple of days at least

When you put it like that it sounds major,
Wish you was my dad:D
Never done anything like this before, been offered the v8 at a good price without engine, i just want the body and all the fiittings, think i will sell the rest

obviously changing from petrol to diesel requires things swapping but isnt difficult hardest thing about body is lifting it off if you havent access to 2 post ramp or forklift etc ,all the rest if you decide either way i can tell you but is a lot to write until you are ready and sure which you want to do

Did my head in yesterday, spoke to so many people for there opinions and got so many different answers.
I have got a 200 tdi disco that needs loads of welding but the engine and box chassis are fine.
Got the chance to purchase a v8 disco with no engine and box which is in very good condition, only done 58k.
Would my engine and box fit in the 98 disco to make it a 2.5 diesel, would i need to change the engine mounts?
Changing the bodies seems so much work, so i think it best to swap engines.
I would have a 98 disco- loads better than mine with a 200tdi engine

just got your threads, James.
This computer is so slow, they was not there a minute a go when i looked.
Thanks so much for your knowledge, i really appreciate it

you would need to cut v8 mount off and weld your 200 ones on, you align it by fitting gear box on its mounts in the new vehicle usuing holes already there ,then fit engine minus clutch and you can the tac weld mouts in right place ,the rest like rad assembly will just swap (nuts and bolts)over

That's it then- going to go for the engine and box transplant.
Do you reckon i should renew anything whilst my engine and box are out?
Going to give it a service ie oil and fluids, dont fancy doing timing belt, never done one and seems technical- leave that for garage.
The v8 has a pump at the tank so i am assuming this would no longer be needed? would the v8 fuel tank be usable or would i have to swap them over?
Would really appreciate it if you would be able to guide me through it James, have a friend who is going to help me and knows a bit about cars.
Think i am going to have to put some holiday days in at work

no problem ,if your old truck has plastic tank you remove plate in rear boot floor and swap units over , if fuel pipes are poor its more than acceptable to replace with 5/16 rubber fuel hose and hose clips ,you want to end up with just 2 pipes feed and return up to engine bay, swap parts one at a time ie fuel fiter,so you can rember where there going to fit

Picked up the v8 Saturday without the engine and auto box, cannot wait to put my engine and box in to it.
First i want to clean all the interior and clean the top rust from underneath the car, noticed that the drivers foot well was wet through yesterday, stripped out the roof lining as i suspected that the sunroofs where leaking but there is no tell tale signs, going to check the draining pipes later when i have stripped out the centre console, anyone know where these lead to?.
There is loads of wiring under the bonnet that i dont think i will need but will need further advise from you guys on here if possible, few questions i have that i hope you can help with-
Will i be able to keep the abs when i put my 200tdi engine in?
Will i be able to change the wiring loom?
Asking you guys to get a heads up, anything else you think i should know, i would appreciate.

Thanks
Paul
