I made myown from galvanised wire some clips and bits from b&q i leave them off unless doing anything with my roof rack on
 
If they are OEM and you have a receipt then its good to go if they are fitted correctly otherwise on th eroad the plod get upset
 
I had them fitted for a few years no probs but it wasn;t a hash up all the cables are heat shrunk after being welded together and all tentioners are from a marine store. but ive taken them off because the hard top is in the garden!
 
I agree that they are dangerous and I probably wont fit mine unless offroading comp drive day. Min e do pretty much unhook easily so only takes a minute to put them up.
 
I was told by a copper that mine were illegal and had to have them removed then prove that they were removed! mind you they were the only thing holding my bumper on at the time due to rust!

Seriously - I got the 'evil eye' off my local copper who commented on the stuff hanging of my landy - I just told him to **** off and that it was perfectly legal.........................whoooooooooooooooops :eek:
