Hi, after I turn the engine off on my 04 plate TD4 there's a loud buzzing / whining noise that comes from around the battery area, is this normal and what causes it?

in another thread you mentioned ordering an egr bypass unit ..
did you install it yet ?

if so .. and you've blocked the egr vacuum feed at the egr end ..
then the buzzing / whining on shutdown would be the 'dying duck' sound
from the now-defunct egr solenoid .. nothing to worry about ..

that solenoid be on right hand side of engine ( as you stand in front )

~~~~~~
unless it's somethin' else ..
Hi, yup, I fitted the egr bypass hence the problem with my egr pipe, I'll cover that in my other thread.
The vacuum line is blocked off but the noise was there before I did the egr bypass.
It can't be something that all Freelanders do then so thats not good......
Think its more likely your Fuel Burning Heater, its located more or less under the battery & the fan runs for a few minutes after it switches off but once your water heats up it should go off, you might hear it after a short run though where the water doesn't have a chance to get hot.
