Looking for tips etc when buying a Freelander Commercial.
Liking the looks etc...but internet doesnt seem to show them in a very good light.Looking at the diesel version...any advice appreciated.

There is a buyer's guide kicking about somewhere on here, search this foum and you'll find it :)

Quick n dirty: -

Tyres, need to be same make, best on the back
VCU can go, search for the test method on here
IRD and read diff can be victims of the VCU if it's left knackered
MAF will die at some point
Cam sensor is known to fail now and then
Turbo pipes can start to leak pressure as they 'rot'
Electric window winders can fail
Sun roof can fail
Fuel burning heater (if fitted) can suffer main board failure

On the plus side, at least one person on here will be able to tell you how to fix any of those without paying a mechanic.

Before buying make sure it actually has the VCU and both prop shafts fitted, quite a few have them removed as it's cheaper than a new VCU and mechanic's time to fit. A recon is £200 and can be fitted by the amateur mechanic in a couple of hours tops.
