broken cambelt

hello everyone.
The timing belt on my defender 90 300 Tdi has snapped. I have already replaced the timing belt and replaced the broken rocker arms and pushrods.
What else should I take apart and check? I am afraid that there are still small pieces of metal from the break. Where could these parts go?

Is it running? If so crack on.
Remove air filter and listen with it running, no ofd pops etc crack on
 
Are you now running? If so should be good. Take it you collected the bitts of arms that were broken and did the jigsaw to see you had all big bits? Any tiny bits would wash with the oil down the pushrod holes.
 
Thank you for your responses. No I haven't tried starting the engine yet. I put down a magnet in the pushrod holes and i found one of those caps from the valves. That's why I'm afraid that there are more parts lying around in the engine. Should I flush the engine with oil, or do you think it's necessary to take the head down and check the pushrods? Or am I worrying too much?

You often find those caps, or bits of them, in the sumps, even if the belt hasn't snapped.

Fire it up and see what happens.

I finally had time to put everything back together and test it. It runs without problems at idle speed, but as soon as I open the throttle it dies. Could there be another sensor that is broken, I was thinking of a crankshaft sensor?
I didn't have any coolant in it either, does it have a sensor there? Or is there something wrong with the injection pump?

The 300Tdi doesn't have a crank sensor.
Is yours a left hand drive?
It sounds smooth enough, strange that it's cutting out when you put a few revs on. I'd get some coolant in it and air filter and leave it ticking over for ages to see what happens.
