Brake problem?

Evening All
Had a bit of a scary moment this morning. roads were damp but not wet and i had to stomp on the brakes. there was a lock up at the front and the landy pulled to the left...

There has been a fine whining noise from the front left that has been there for a couple of month that sounds as if something is rubbing, but have checked it all out as far as my knowledge allows me. No stuck pads, no stones stuck where they should not be, it has even been to the vets for the once over and they found nothing.

Question is... was the lock up caused by the mysterious noise. or are my tyres not up to the job for these road conditions?
i run my 90 on General Grabber AT's 235/85. Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Wet leaves on the road are like ice. Some under your left wheel during braking would have caused it to slide rather than stop.
Go and do a test emergency stop on a nice high street filled with ramblers to see if it still pulls to the left or if it was a one off road surface event.

general grabbers arnt the best boots for anyting. could be sticky pistons in your brake calipers. or your disks could have a nice rusty outer edge that digs into the brake pad under hard braking. take a hammer and bang that rust off.

you could try new disks and pads, land rover parts shop.com have a special offer on vented crossdrilled discs for arround the £20 each mark. go for the delphi pads not the cheap ones as the cheap ones last arround 6k.
