Brake calliper AAAAAGH!!!!

Just done a change of brake discs and pads...Rushed a bit in dark as mrs was waiting for motor

1st side no probs

other side caliper dont want to go in but with bit of force managed to get back. Seems to be sticking in one place only about 1/4 inch from fully back.

Fits brakes and gets it all sorted only to realise that brake is now binding and being a bastid....

Any advice if its a common fault or best way to un-seize what seems to be seized caliper.

I am surprised at you, Dopeydog! I thought you had more sense than to rush a brake rebuild. Surely that is one job you need to take your time and make sure its done proper. Or are you trying to to kill your Doris?
I think it is a restrip that wheel and check the caliper thoroughly.

Think my fookin dog could have worked that out:doh: but will forgive you as you managed to refrain from your normal burn it comments. As for topping SWMBO I could have stayed warm and dry and got Kwik Fit to do the job.

Just wondering if these are prone to ridges, burrs or crap build up (It is used off road regullarly) etc that could cause above

would that be Doobrey or the Doris?

I have a funny feeling that calipers are not, normally prone to ridges, burrs or crap, bearing in mind it is a hydraulic system, which normally works in a clean environment and requires close tolerances. They also usually have some form of protection (like a rubber boot) to stop ingress of nasties such as grit and water. I would suggest that due to the unusual environment that you use you hippoo in - ie off road (couldnt resist it ) - that might have something to do with it. I would personally strip the caliper back to component parts, clean it, give it an in-depth visual and reassemble carefully; then see what it is like.

Could be that you have just pushed the piston back in slightly out of square (cos you were in a hurry).

Sorted....could well have been a bit squiff.....took it off again, piston in an out a few times.....seems fine now
