Both the front brakes sticking on

Hi,

I replaced the near side wheel bearings and then took the landy in for the mot, she passed but on the way back both the front brakes stuck on.
The rears were completely free and I'd say the fronts were stuck on equally.
I am a bit confused since the backs were unaffected so although there is a bias between the front and rear I would have thought there the rears would have been sticking a little if there was a problem with the master cylinder or servo.
Since it was both sides, I don't think it would have been a blockage or caliper problem. I don't think changing the wheel bearing would have affected it except that when i clamped the pipe when I took the caliper off. Could this have damaged it and caused a non return valve kinda thing? But then again, it was fine on the way to the mot centre...

I opened up the bleed nipple, and a bit of fluid squired out and then the brakes began to free off. Wen't for another short drive and the brakes weren't sticking.
So I am baffled. Does anyone have any idea as to what could have caused this?

Thanks

Jasper

I have seen the flexi hoses pinch off internally after clamping. They then act as a one-way valve as you suggest. If you got a squirt of fluid on cracking the bleed nipple, when the brake system should be unpressurised, that seems diagnostic. However, it doesn't explain everything in your post. Has yours got ABS?

Hi thanks, yeah thats what i though originally but was confused as to why it happened on both sides... And no, there is no ABS.

next time it happens try releasing vac at servo by pulling on vac were it enters servo

Will do, what would be the issue here?

cheers

From your initial post it sounded like you cracked one bleed nipple and both sides freed off. A pinched brake hose will only seize one side, but I wondered if the seized wheel was holding the other side via the diff, but I suppose the diff lock would have to be on... James's post makes more sense.

too long a servo push rod or pedal not held up by return spring
Would that be an easy fix?

Both the disks were red hot so I reckon it was definitely both sides sticking on...

I would guess that checking and adjusting the brake servo rod would sort it, or replacing the pedal spring if it doesn't bring the pedal back to the stop reliably.

Er, yes.

Hope you get it sorted. Let us know how you get on.
