Ok, bought a synergy 2a off here and was advertised as having a pierburg maf.

Recieved today and opened the maf. It was in a pierburg box but had a green o ring round it and was labeled bosch on the unit itself.

I have contacted the seller hoping he just put the wrong one in the box but is it a big deal to run the synergy without the pierburg and just use the oem bosch? I did buy the pierburg one but I ain't buying one again and I know the owner doesn't have the car any more so likely that the pierburg went with the car when it sold.

Just to make it clear I am not slating the seller, just asking whether or not I'll still get good results with the synergy using a bosch maf?

Also I was intending to use setting 7 for the pierburg maf. What is a safe setting for an auto when using a bosch one, would it be setting 3? I don't wanna blow the box up!

hiya

ive got a synergy along with a bosch maf,

mines also an auto and got mine set on number 2, which i find very adequate.

if i want to overtake etc i just use the steptronic box and find that serves my purpose well

also got a hawkeye and trying to see if it gives me the maf readings in order i could compare it to rons maf readings but not sure if the hawkeye gives those readings

hope that helps

I think that setting 3 for a Bosch MAF is equivalent to setting 8 for the Pierburg.

I run at setting 8 which according to the instructions that came with it is high torque and medium power.

I also have the dash switch which allows me to swap between the 'Eco' mode and the 'Power' mode.

I use the Eco for motorways and dual-carriageways and the extra 'Oomph' from Power mode for A & B roads to give better acceleration and shorter overtaking.

RoverRon has recently completely revised his website - making it less easy to understand (for me at any rate)

His latest boxes have totally different settings marked on them so I can only deduce that he has applied some more electrickery and circuitry.

There is no longer the high torque and med power I use. Setting 8 on the latest boxes is given as Medium torque and Medium Power.

Presumably you have an older box with the original settings.

Did you get the fitting instructions with it? It's pretty straightforward even if you didn't.

I've got the older box. As it was Second hand it didn't come with any instructions. Ive looked on the website but don't really understand the instructions :(.

A step by step guide would be slightly easier. Another thing is that I don't actually have te car in front of me yet to look at while in readin the website.

Here's the link to RoverRons new site for his latest Synergy2a - thankfully the fitting instructions are exactly the same - it's only the settings on the label that have been changed. Is this the page you looked at and didn't quite understand?

Well done hd3 - I was trying to find it on Ron's site - but he's deleted it, I think.

As for 'older' box .....

There have been various versions of the box over the years - I think most of us who have one, have the Synergy 2 which was upgraded to the Synergy 2a.

Then when Ron introduced the dash switch the original instructions were that you couldn't change mode while the engine was running.

So the next stage was a Synergy2a+.

He's now gone and changed the spec yet again - but I haven't studied it enough to know if he's changed anything other than the settings and the label.

HD3 - Thanks buddy thats brill!

I haven't had a proper read yet but at quick glance it looks like I'll be able to understand them!

I found the current web page on it and I also found some PDF files or something but all the pictures/words were muggled on the page or something. The one on the website posted above didn't make much sense to me.

I usually do a lot of stuff myself but I'm no mechanic and this is my first turbo, let alone diesel. I need to familiarise myself with the engine first and find bits etc.

Once again! Thanks!

cheers for the reply :)
