Sorry really dull question but covered in mud, cold wet and tired and well cheesed off

......old starter motor very troublesome...funny noises not good on a cold day so as its my birthday therefore decided new Bosch starter. Disco 200tdi conversion Right pain to get at as we all know but got it all back in place with new starter fitted and nothing....I have done a few of these....I have always just pushed the new starter into the flywheel housing and bolted up ....that's ok isn't it? I don't need to specially engage with the flywheel do I?

New battery, 70mm earth cable I made up specially and bolted it straight to the body of the starter. Hot battery cable to the top stud and working ignition switch to the spade

Should work shouldn't it......any reports of dodgy starters from Paddocks?

got some clicking but nothing eise....sounds like solenoid is working but m....th.....r f..u k r nothing else.....guess I should have bench tested it first.....looks like it's coming out again.....oh darn it

battery charge good, and had it on the trickle charger all day aswell .......but will check again tomorrow after a cold night. Negative is from chassis to fixing bolt on starter...will make another up,straight from battery to same place just in case

Thanks for replying Blue Beasty....will go over everything again tomorrow and trouble shoot properly...just a bit tired and emotional at the moment

Solved...ran new cables with new crimps...starts brilliantly now

Must have been poor connections......thank god for that 'c os that is a bitch of a job to do especially as the disco turbo is so low down....very tempted to fit a 300tdi exhaust manifold and turbo to make this so much easier

anyway...thanks again Blue Beasty
